Marty Sederberg was born in Olympia, Washington and was raised in a family of that has extensive mechanical, contracting and property development history.

Urban Dwelling Specialists was established in 1994 by Marty Sederberg as a construction and remodeling company.  After four years of remodeling, additions, rehabs and new construction projects in conjunction with the real estate market, Urban Dwelling Inspection was formed. The need for competent inspection services became apparent with the observation of hundreds of inspection reports that did not fully convey the severity of issues related to structures and projects. 

Many home inspectors of this era  were part time or from industries that were not related or distantly associated with the construction industry. Some contractors were doing inspections based on "Industry Standards", however this perspective left out what "Industry Standard" looked like after ten years. In reality, this standard is more like a minimum. 

I take pride in my applicable knowledge related to structural and envelope integrity. Home and construction inspections require a broad understanding of multiple systems and concepts, not the ability to fill out a check list. Additionally, knowing how to read blue prints, how to evaluate products and read contracts that specify procedures are essential to having a complete understanding of the situation at hand. Just because you can cut a piece of lumber to the correct length and drive a nail does not make you capable of understanding the larger scope of the project. 

Having the ability to understand multiple and complex systems, specifications and zoning issues are as improtant as understanding when you do not know a particular item. Having the ability to differentiate between what you know and do not know, willingness to admit your need for assistance and resources to determine whom you need to call upon to get the correct answers are essential to the performance of a good inspector. 

Urban Dwelling Inspection is a one man show. Marty Sederberg is the owner, operator, inspector and chief bottle washer. You will not get a receptionist that takes a message, and you will not get an assistant that needs to check in with the boss to get an answer. You get the knowledge, experience and face time that you need. This is essential to the proper management of any project, simple or complex, big or small. I do not over schedule time, and only accept projects that are within my skill set, knowledge base and time frame.
